Fusion People have a long record in finding and placing Site Managers, Supervisors and Agents

Site Managers are critical to site preliminaries including setting out the site and organising facilities, planning the project and, above all else, ensuring that they meet agreed specifications, budgets and timescales and to oversee building work. Other titles for the same role can be Construction/Site Supervisor or Site Agent.

Key Competencies

Working to the highest health and safety standards is a pre-requisite in an inherently dangerous industry. In fact many employers will look for a track record in achieving high scores in not only health and safety, but also environmental management, BREEAM and Considerate Constructor Scheme.

Broad technical construction knowledge is required which might include knowledge of complex substructures, sheet and bored piling, reinforced concrete and steel frame construction, complex building services installations, facade systems as well as traditional stone and masonry.

The traditional route into site management was on a time-served basis, typically having undertaken an apprenticeship in a building trade and then taken management responsibility as a Foreman before ascending to site management.

Although this route is still open, many Universities offer specific course (including Construction Management) and graduates will often join businesses as Assistant Site Managers. This formalisation of the education and qualification process sees the CIOB offer chartered status, usually including a period of vocational training.

How much does a Site Manager get paid?

When we carried out our most recent survey of the UK construction industry, our research showed Site Manager jobs get paid an average of £36,324 per annum. This range includes entry level roles and senior roles not designated as at Contracts Manager or Project Manager level.

Where can I find Site Manager jobs?

As most Site Managers will work on projects with a finite lifespan, the role will inevitably mean working in different locations, often determined by the company order book. For example, a Midlands based role might involve working in Oxford, then transferring to Nottingham and then on to Wolverhampton, so a degree of flexibility is required.
