Job description
This role has been released on a temporary basis they are looking for a Senior Payroll and Pensions Officer for 3 months initially.

Main Duties:
* Take responsibilities for the timely payment of salaries to a specific allocation of monthly paid employees.  This work includes examining appointment forms, setting up new employee records and processing subsequent permanent changes. The role will process leavers, calculate final pay, produce and despatch P45’s and pension scheme documentation.
* This role will examine and process timesheets, overtime, and other temporary variation forms including sickness and absence returns. It will investigate payments outside of tolerances. Calculate manual pay advances or overpayments as required and liaise with employees accordingly.
* This role is responsible for the correct application of Statutory and Occupational rules regarding Maternity, Sick, Adoption and Paternity Pay, and compliance with Income Tax and National Insurance Contribution legislation and Pension Scheme regulations. 
The role will act as first point of contact with employees with regard to any payroll related matter.
* Provide support to the Payroll Supervisor Control in the co-ordination and processing of various internal and external customer payrolls managed by the Council.
These responsibilities include identifying errors and/or omissions, the production of reconciliation reports, balancing and running the payroll. 
This role will also be required to send payment transactions via the council’s BACS Bureau and assist with the recovery of overpayments.
* This role will also liaise with pension scheme administrators regarding pension and redundancy estimates.

You should match the following criteria:

* You will hold a relevant qualification e.g. minimum of NVQ 3, 2 A levels or equivalent qualification or equivalent relevant experience.
* You will have relevant practical experience acquired through training. You will also be able to demonstrate your development through undertaking progressively more demanding work roles.
* You will have proven initiative and judgement to resolve standard problems independently or through a support team.
* You will have written and verbal communication skills.
* You will be able to build relationships and influence others based on knowledge of the service area.
* You will have project management skills.
* You will have good team working skills and show an ability to supervise staff to meet organisational objectives.
* You may have proven numeracy and IT skills
