Job description

Job Title: Project Draughtsman

Duration: Permanent

Salary: £25 – 35K depending on experience

The Draughtsman will be inquisitive, detail orientated, deadline driven, and highly adept at creating well laid out, insightful engineering drawings. Furthermore, he or she must have a combination of other skills that facilitates efficient throughput of drawings, whilst managing a requirement for inevitable change, and subsequent document control during manufacture.  

Responsibilities: 

The key roles and responsibilities of the Draughtsman are outlined in the non-exhaustive list below:

Evaluation of the design inputs i.e. clients requisition, specifications, design reports or an existing GA drawing; 

Generation of output/informal drawing plans i.e. what to draw, when and how to present it; 

Creation and checking of engineering/manufacturing drawings and bills of materials;  

Creation and checking of certain other related technical documentation; 

Ownership of & compliance with existing and new management system procedures; 

Liaison with other departments including direct contact with shop floor; 

Liaison with clients, suppliers and third-party inspection authorities; 

Procurement of materials; 

Attend departmental planning and contract review meetings.

 

Essential Experience – 5 years (current) of generating 1D engineering drawings (including structural steelwork) in petrochemical, oil and gas or power generation markets.

Preferable – 5 years (current) using 3D Solidworks software and/or 5 years in the pressure vessel or heat exchanger industry in petrochemical, oil and gas or power generation markets. 

Advantageous – a working knowledge of the pressure vessel design codes ASME VIII and PD0077, construction code TEMA, and the Pressure Equipment Directive.

Qualifications Essential – 3 x GCSE’s (including Mathematics and English), 1 x A levels (including Mathematics) and a HNC in Mechanical & Production Engineering or equivalent. 

Preferable – As above plus an engineering degree, inclusive of materials. 

Advantageous – a working knowledge of the pressure vessel design codes ASME VIII and PD0077, construction code TEMA, and the Pressure Equipment Directive. 

 

Package £25 to £35k pa dependent on experience and qualifications.
