Assistant System Performance Engineer

 

Type: 12 month contract

   

Job Purpose            

  

Reporting to the Senior System Performance Engineer, this role will be allocated to a team currently within the System Performance and Integration Group. Primarily this role is responsible for tunnel ventilation and cooling modelling to assist line upgrade projects in understanding the impact of future line upgrades on air velocities and thermal conditions across the deep tube network.

   

Key Accountabilities

   Undertaking Tunnel Ventilation Modelling (TVM) using the Subway Environment Simulation (SES) software.

  • Assisting in air velocity and cooling business case analysis
  • Assisting in the feasibility design assessments of proposed station cooling schemes and ventilation fan upgrades.
  • Deliver tunnel ventilation and cooling engineering activities on projects / programmes, applying the principles of verification and validation, ensuring the delivery of system performance at the railway level.
  • Assisting with the preparation of reports and presentations to clients.

  • Degree in relevant Engineering subject. (Essential)
  • Ability to analyse complex data, draw conclusions and make recommendations to senior management. (Essential)
  • Ability to use specialised modelling & simulation tools and “non-Windows” based bespoke software. (Essential)
  • Ability to plan, implement and assist in managing projects to deliver to time, budget and quality. (Essential)
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people at all levels across the organisation and externally. (Essential)
  • Ability to build effective working relationships, with people at all levels across the organisation and externally and to influence. (Essential)
  • Knowledge and experience in Subway Environment Simulation (SES) (Desirable)
  • Working knowledge of fluid dynamics, modelling & simulation techniques and good industry practice. (Desirable)
  • Knowledge and experience in CFD. (Desirable)

 

 

2. Assistant System Performance Engineer



Type: 12 month contract

 

Job Purpose            

 

Reporting to the Senior System Performance Engineer, this role will be allocated to a team currently within the System Performance and Integration Group. Primarily this role is responsible for train performance and traction power modelling to assist line upgrade projects in understanding capacity and infrastructure constraints.

 

Key Accountabilities

 

  • Undertaking performance and power modelling using the Railway Engineering Simulator software (RES).
  • Assisting in the assessment of capacity constraints and mitigations
  • Delivering engineering activities on projects / programmes, applying the principles of verification and validation, ensuring the delivery of system performance at the railway level.
  • Assisting with the preparation of reports and presentations to clients.
