1. Why did you apply for this position?

To answer this question you need to explain your interest in the company and your suitability for the job role. Express your strengths and aspirations.

2. Tell me a bit about yourself?

This means tell me why you’re the most suitable candidate for the job. Talk about your relevant education and experience and remember to tailor your answer to the role and use examples. Talk about your main responsibilities and the skills you have gained from these.

3. What is the most important achievement in your career to date?

This question is a chance to really shine and show to the employer what you are capable of. Your achievements really distinguish you from other candidates so make sure you’ve got plenty of examples ready to provide.

4. What do you see yourself doing in five years?

This is a common question that assesses your ambition and motivation. You should firstly set your long term career objective and then set about how you are going to achieve this. Be both positive and realistic.

5. What challenges do you think you will face in this job?

This question allows you to give examples of challenges you may have come up against in previous jobs and how you have overcome these.

6. What is your greatest weakness?

For this question you should select a weakness that you have been actively working to overcome and show the steps you have taken to do this.

7. Why are you leaving your current job?

Don’t talk negatively about your previous job or colleagues. Instead talk about leaving for a positive reason such as an opportunity to develop your career. Express your passion for the field in which you are applying for and how your skills are relevant.

8. Why do you want to work for us?

To answer this question you need to evaluate why you choose to apply for the job in the first place. There may be a number of reasons but chose the ones you think the employer would most like to hear. Demonstrate the research you’ve done on the company and your motivation for joining the organisation.

9. How would you describe yourself in three words?

This question allows you to use positive words to describe yourself. Try to pick words that are different from what others would say and are relevant to the job role. It is important to back up your answer with examples.

10. Do you have any questions?

Always say yes to this question you want to have access to all the relevant information required to make an informed decision about the job offering and also appear enthusiastic.
